TRANSPORTATION SERVICE
Regardless of age, we all want to remain living in our own homes
for as long as possible. one important aspect to living independently is the
ability to drive. When older adults are unable to drive and do not have
alternate transportation options available, it can have a dramatic impact on
their sense of independence and routines of daily life.
Utilizing volunteer drivers and a fleet of eight radio equipped Red Cross
vehicles, our Transportation Service will take residents to and from medical
appointments. These drivers will go the extra mile and provide personal
"home-to-appointment-to-home" service, whether it's to a doctor's appointment,
physical therapy, radiation treatment, or dialysis.
To be
eligible for help, clients must be residents of Summit County, they must be ambulatory and have
no other means of transportation. We do not offer emergency transportation
service and so appointments must be made in advance.
Our
transportation department takes great pride in offering free
transportation to residents of Summit County. Through their
travels, our drivers have made many friends and tend to
grow quite fond of their passengers. You will find these special
volunteers always ready to help with a comforting
smile, a compassionate ear, and always a free ride.
If you would like information
